About Paulo and Juliana Piancastelli of El Salvador

In 2010, Paulo and Juliana Piancastelli left their corporate lives behind to found Fazenda Terra Alta. Their mission? “To pioneer new approaches to high quality green coffee production, to positively impact the environment and the community, to boldly go where no grower has gone before.” Their first harvest came in 2013, and since then, their coffees have scored high, and won multiple awards.

This is PTs first time working with Paulo and Juliana. In the few short years they have been in the specialty coffee industry, they have put together an expert production team, planted high-quality coffee varietals, and implemented innovative processing methods. In a Direct Trade model, they collaborate with farmers on processing methods, work with roasters during the harvest to seek out micro-lots such as this one, and then ship the coffees to their warehouse in the US, giving roasters confidence in quality control.

PT's Coffee Roasting Co.

Topeka Kansas, 1993: an unlikely place and time for one of the most groundbreaking Direct Trade coffee companies in the world to be founded, but that's just what Fred Polzin and Jeff Taylor did. PT's Coffee Roasting Co.'s slogan is, "Without the love, it's just coffee.", and they certainly live up to it. (In fact, Jeff married a Colombian coffee pro, Maritza, now Director of Quality Control for PT's).

PT's Coffee Roasting Co. has won many awards, including Roast Magazine's 2009 "Roaster of the Year" and a 2012 Good Food Award medal. Building on a history so solid, PT's is pushing into the future of the coffee industry with promise and momentum.
