About Smallholder producers of Kenya
Nestled between Mt. Kenya to the northeast and the Aberdare ridges to the west lies the Thiriku Coffee Factory in Nyeri, Kenya. The factory (mill) belongs to the Thiriku Coffee Growers Cooperative Society, and is managed by nine democratically elected board members who ensure that member farmers receive needed advances for school fees, farm improvements, and emergencies
The Thiriku Coffee Growers Cooperative is Rainforest Alliance Certified and each smallholder has about 200 trees on their farm. With an average of about 45 inches of rain annually and rich red volcanic loam soils that maintain adequate moisture content, it's the perfect micro-climate for coffee, and the area is known for coffees that offer bright citrus acidity, full body, and fruity flavors.

PT's Coffee Roasting Co.
Topeka Kansas, 1993: an unlikely place and time for one of the most groundbreaking Direct Trade coffee companies in the world to be founded, but that's just what Fred Polzin and Jeff Taylor did. PT's Coffee Roasting Co.'s slogan is, "Without the love, it's just coffee.", and they certainly live up to it. (In fact, Jeff married a Colombian coffee pro, Maritza, now Director of Quality Control for PT's).
PT's Coffee Roasting Co. has won many awards, including Roast Magazine's 2009 "Roaster of the Year" and a 2012 Good Food Award medal. Building on a history so solid, PT's is pushing into the future of the coffee industry with promise and momentum.
