About Smallholder producers of Colombia

Sometimes the sum of something is greater than its parts. A perfect example would be this carefully curated coffee dubbed La Caldera. Alone, 30 small farms from the Pasto region of Narino are growing really good coffees but in lots too small to process separately. But combined with each other, the lots morph into something extra special, and Azahar Coffee in Colombia does the combining for these smallholders.

The team at Azahar has a mission to halt the coffee value chain at the point where separate coffees begin to lose connection to the farmers who produce them. They interview farmers, find outstanding coffees, and assign unique QR Codes to each producer they work with. This allows coffee drinkers a way to trace each coffee back to the human being who grew it, which in turn adds value to coffee at its source, bringing higher premiums that hardworking farmer.

Case Coffee Roasters

At the ripe old age of 21, high school sweethearts Tim and Kati Case married in January, 2006, and promptly opened Case Coffee Roasters in Ashland, Oregon. Winners of the 2013 and 2015 Good Food Awards and a finalist in 2016, Tim and Kati’s mission is to source the world’s most sweet, clean, and complex coffees. They are dedicated to making great coffee selections and offering good prices to the farmers, often paying two to three times Fair Trade prices.

When they’re not living and breathing coffee, you might find Tim and Kati exploring the Pacific Northwest with their six-year-old son, Yonnie: surfing, snowboarding, fly fishing, hiking, and mountain biking.
