About Smallholder producers of Costa Rica
Cañuela is part of green coffee importer Royal Coffee’s Los Lomas Project. They’ve worked with Costa Rican producers over the years, sourcing macro to micro lots, but found that in the middle ground between those two sizes, coffee quality often lagged behind. The Los Lomas Project was designed to bridge that gap. Knowing that traceability is key, they chose to work with CooproNaranjo R. L., a co-op they’ve been in relationship with for almost ten years.
In this project, Royal and the co-op chose grower members who consistently produce quality coffee. Through ongoing conversations and inspections during the growing season, harvest, and processing of each chosen farmer’s coffees, and incentivizing through higher premiums paid for higher quality, they work together to produce beautiful coffee on a medium-macro scale. This lot is solid proof that together they have cracked the code!
