About Alvaro Ovalle of Colombia
This coffee was grown on Finca El Recuerdo (Farm of the Memory) by owner and producer, Alvaro Ovalle, and is part of La Palma y El Tucán’s Neighbors and Crops program. The program is designed to offer farmers near La Palma y El Tucán coffee farm and mill such benefits as assistance with better farm practices, help with harvest via a team of specially-trained pickers, and processing their coffee at La Palma y El Tucán’s state-of-the-art wet mill. These incentives enable participating farmers like Alvaro opportunity to up their coffee game.
La Palma has a motto: “We will always insist on quality, and we will never forsake community. If one is without the other, then nothing is gained.”
Through this program, they are revitalizing the coffee culture in the Cundinamarca region of Colombia. For Alvaro, this means higher quality coffee and a market not before accessible, and for us, it means access to spectacular microlots we wouldn’t otherwise experience.

PT's Coffee Roasting Co.
Topeka Kansas, 1993: an unlikely place and time for one of the most groundbreaking Direct Trade coffee companies in the world to be founded, but that's just what Fred Polzin and Jeff Taylor did. PT's Coffee Roasting Co.'s slogan is, "Without the love, it's just coffee.", and they certainly live up to it. (In fact, Jeff married a Colombian coffee pro, Maritza, now Director of Quality Control for PT's).
PT's Coffee Roasting Co. has won many awards, including Roast Magazine's 2009 "Roaster of the Year" and a 2012 Good Food Award medal. Building on a history so solid, PT's is pushing into the future of the coffee industry with promise and momentum.
