Coffee Description

Ethiopian heirloom coffee at its sweet, floral best, this offering is complex, with juicy body and wild strawberry acidity. Jasmine and dark brown sugar aromas lead into flavor notes of fresh coconut and honeydew, with mango and a spicy hint of bergamot in the lush finish.

About Smallholder producers of Ethiopia

The Nano Challa Cooperative was formed in 2004 as a way for the collective members to better process and market their harvest. In 2010, they were one of the first Ethiopian cooperatives to invest in a washing station, greatly improving the quality of their processed coffee. This raised them out of the commodity market, garnering them specialty coffee prices for their harvest.

Now boasting over 400 members, Nano Challa has continued to invest in milling equipment, including a Penagos machine that depulps the coffee using minimal water. Great care is taken in sorting the coffee parchment, and the end result is beautifully clean washed heirloom coffee with floral and tropical fruit notes. The last time PT’s featured coffee from Nano Challa (2013) their roast earned a 94 score from Coffee Review and won a Good Food Award as well!

PT's Coffee Roasting Co.

Topeka Kansas, 1993: an unlikely place and time for one of the most groundbreaking Direct Trade coffee companies in the world to be founded, but that's just what Fred Polzin and Jeff Taylor did. PT's Coffee Roasting Co.'s slogan is, "Without the love, it's just coffee.", and they certainly live up to it. (In fact, Jeff married a Colombian coffee pro, Maritza, now Director of Quality Control for PT's).

PT's Coffee Roasting Co. has won many awards, including Roast Magazine's 2009 "Roaster of the Year" and a 2012 Good Food Award medal. Building on a history so solid, PT's is pushing into the future of the coffee industry with promise and momentum.
