Coffee Description
***Please note this is only roasting Monday March 30th - 1 roast day for all orders, making it a very limited drop***
Complex flavor paired with this experimental Nitrogen Washed process yields an incredibly wild cup, yet still exceptionally clean throughout. Five & Hoek cuppers were tasting Watermelon, Big League Chew, and Pink Starburst, making this an enjoyable cup of watermelon juice, whether you brew it on filter or espresso.
Artwork always and forever by the talented, Cesar Davila.

About Julio Madrid of Colombia
Five & Hoek’s “Sasquatch Series” seeks out rare processes and varieties; these coffees are meant for the adventurous and explorers of new flavors, worthy of slow sipping. This coffee variety, Caturra, has become a hall of fame varietal over the past few years, and for good reason.
Julio Madrid, from Finca Milan, located in Risaralda, Colombia has become a household name for producing award winning coffees. Madrid takes a sought after varietal and processes it in sealed barrels and flushes it with nitrogen, creating a completely oxygen free environment. Ripe coffee cherries undergo embryonic stress, maintaining their temperature at 12 degrees. After pulping, the beans are placed in a bioreactor, inoculated with specific strains of yeast and bacteria for controlled fermentation. Nitrogen is injected to facilitate microbial metabolic processes, closely monitoring temperature, acidity, and Brix (sugar content) degrees throughout. Following bioreactor treatment, the coffee beans are solar-dried to 40% moisture, then transferred to mechanical dryers until reaching 10%-12% moisture. The result is a coffee that tastes just like watermelon, bubblegum, and pink starburst. This heavy hitter is just in time for MLB opening day!

Five & Hoek
Five & Hoek, roasting since 2011, is focused on living life in community and connecting with others (or themselves with a good book) through coffees that tell stories. Their own story starts in India, where owners Tyler and Erich fell in love with the laid back culture experienced in tea gardens (and rickshaw rides), and brought back a desire to share that experience through the avenue of coffee and community.
Five & Hoek opened their Wheaton cafe in 2014, and are expanding to put both cafe and roastery under the same roof in 2019, where they will continue to source and roast both approachable and experimental coffees. They serve delicious coffee and inspire community through local customers and producers partners as they live out their tagline, “Coffee / Connection / Community.
