About Sebastián Benitez of Honduras

Finca La Piñona perches high above the town of El Cielito. Fog rising from the lake shrouds the mountain in cool cloud-like mist, and when it clears, the view goes on forever. In 1981, owner Sebastián Benitez began growing coffee here on .175 hectares. These days, he and his wife, and their 11 children do all the work on the farm (which has grown to 2 hectares) except during harvest when they also rely on a handful of seasonal employees. A Cup of Excellence winning producer, he has a small on-site mill and after processing, transports coffee more than an hour and a half by truck.to the nearest storage facility/exporter.

Ritual coffee has been sourcing from La Piñona since 2007. It was their first experience in direct trade with coffee farmers, one which introduced them to a myriad of farmers in the Santa Barbara coffee growing region. Of Sebastián they say, ”We revere him like a patron saint to our coffee program.”
