About Manfredo Topke of Guatemala

Finca Santa Margarita is a special coffee for us because we have had the privilege of seeing the supply chain come around full circle. Our introduction to the coffee started from a personal acquaintance with a friend who lives in the Heights of Houston, Camila Topke. As our friendship grew, we found out that Camila is a coffee trader and that her family owns a coffee farm in Guatemala called Finca Santa Margarita. As we learned more about Finca Santa Margarita and the family behind the farm, we were excited about the opportunity to not only bring in a beautiful coffee, but to also have full knowledge of the entire supply chain from the farm to the cafe. It was a special moment lat in 2020 when Camila’s father visited Houston and got to taste his coffee prepared by Tenfold.

Finca Santa Margarita was founded in 1838 by Thomas Wyld, Camila’s great grandfather. The farm has been in the family for four generations and is currently operated in large part by women. At the heart of Finca Santa Margarita is a mission to take care of its people and the planet. The farm promotes the quality of life of its workers by housing a health clinic that partners with the Guatemala Dept. of Health, an elementary school for the children that live on Santa Margarita and neighboring farms, and a church on its property. In terms of environmental sustainability, the farm’s management practices are based on an agroforestry system that includes low intakes of agrochemicals, high shade coverage and sustainable quality standards. They have also devoted a majority of their land to the promotion of natural species and wildlife biodiversity.
