About Monserrate community farmers of Colombia
Deep in the Central Cordillera range, a single paved road traces its way along a ridge. Clinging to that road as if to anchor themselves to the hillside, are the buildings that make up the little town of Monserrate, Colombia. This village is home to the Grupo Asociativo Productores del Nuevo Milenio (PROAGROMIL), a 60-member coffee cooperative. Member growers are learning to assess their own coffee quality, harvesting, and processing, as well as how to conduct business in the specialty coffee world.
In 2008, Monserrate instituted its own microlot competition in which each farmer’s lots are cupped and scored independently of the other members’ lots, with best quality coffees awarded higher premiums. Producers are finding that top-quality lots traceable to individual farms bring the highest prices of all, and the neighborly competition helps all of them.

When brothers-in-law Steve Hall and Jeff Johnson founded Tinker Coffee Co., they had a simple plan: bring the specialty coffee scene to their own Indianapolis, Indiana backyard. Combining backgrounds in wine and tech (Jeff worked with IBM for 10 years) with a dedication to sourcing fantastic coffees and sharing the excitement with customers, Tinker Coffee was named "Best Coffee in Indiana" by Food & Wine, so their hard work is paying off!
Tinker Coffee was founded in 2014 and roasts coffee for a sweet group of restaurants, cafes, offices, and markets. Jeff admits to preferring Colombian coffees, and Steve, Kenyas.
