Coffee Description

This outstanding coffee just won a bronze medal for filter/pour-over in the 2018 Golden Bean competition! It features bright acidity, complex herbal notes, and a rich strawberry + fig jam sweetness that builds as it cools. Aromas of pineapple candy and plum jam sweep into flavor notes of cinnamon, orange, and grapefruit zest.

About Smallholder producers of Kenya

Mutheka Farmers’ Cooperative Society formed up in 2004 after the Tetu Coffee Growers Cooperative Society split. Mutheka FCS currently operates 7 factories (including Kiandu) with total membership of around 6,000 small scale coffee growers who bring their cherries to their station of choice.

1900 members strong, Kiandu is one of the largest processing mills in the Mutheka group and processes about 2,500 metric tons of coffee cherry annually. As happens often with washing stations and cooperative relationships, Kiandu Factory has been at odds with Mutheka FCS off and on, making aquisition of Kiandu coffees difficult. Though at one point they threatened to go independent, things settled down, at least for now, enabling Tinker Coffee Co. to secure this stellar 2018 lot at auction, and go on to medal in the Golden Bean competition. Well done!

Tinker Coffee Co.

When brothers-in-law Steve Hall and Jeff Johnson founded Tinker Coffee Co., they had a simple plan: bring the specialty coffee scene to their own Indianapolis, Indiana backyard. Combining backgrounds in wine and tech (Jeff worked with IBM for 10 years) with a dedication to sourcing fantastic coffees and sharing the excitement with customers, Tinker Coffee was named "Best Coffee in Indiana" by Food & Wine, so their hard work is paying off!

Tinker Coffee was founded in 2014 and roasts coffee for a sweet group of restaurants, cafes, offices, and markets. Jeff admits to preferring Colombian coffees, and Steve, Kenyas.
