The Risaralda coffee region lies deep in the heart of the central Andes where volcanic soils, elevation, and climate create the perfect trifecta for producing amazing coffees. But before coffee cultivation and before Spanish explorers, the area was occupied by the Quimbaya and Caramanta people groups, and they are still the primary inhabitants. They are also excellent coffee producers.
Sometimes being in the middle is a real advantage. This holds true for coffees grown in Risaralda. Sandwiched between Quindido to the south and Caldas to the north, Risaralda carries incredible versatility of flavor profiles, with coffees grown to the northern part of the area carrying a touch of northern flavor profile and the same advantage to the southern edge, with the added advantage that typical Risaralda coffees carry a sweet balance of their own. Moreover, Risaralda is unique in that both Pacific and Caribbean breezes produce microclimates not readily found in other Colombian coffee regions.
