The Kona coffee region is the best known of all the coffee-growing areas in Hawaii. It’s located on the Big Island (Island of Hawaii) on the Hualalai and Mauna Loa volcanoes. Only coffees grown in North and South Kona get to wear the label of Kona Coffee.
Dark volcanic land, bright mornings full of sunshines, misty to rainy afternoons, and mild nighttime temps create perfect conditions for coffee plants. Kona’s landscape is varied, and the difference comes out in the coffee: those grown on lower elevations tend to be mellow with moderate acidity paired with delicate chocolate and sweetly balanced. Higher altitudes yield florals, richly sweet and silky with more acidity.
