As it stands right now, there’s really only one area that produces enough coffee in Jamaica to be referred to as a region, and that is Blue Mountain . The country may be short on regions, but Blue Mountain is one of the most renowned coffee producing areas in the world, and the coffee from here commands premium prices. That is due both to its particular processing and terroir, and also to some savvy marketing and protected status for the label.
Only coffees grown between 900 and 1500 MASL in the parishes of St. Thomas, St. Andrew, St. Mary and Portland are allowed to wear the Jamaica Blue Mountain label. Elevations between 450-900 go by the name of Jamaica High Mountain, while lower than that is referred to as either Jamaica Supreme or Jamaica Low Mountain. Most coffees here carry the name of the processing mill rather than the grower, since the mills buy ripe cherries from smallholders, and rarely separate the lots except for large estates.
