Coffee Description

The sweetness of this coffee reminds us of watermelon which is difficult to comprehend in the context of coffee but it’s there; light, fruity and juicy. There are also honeysuckle floral undertones as you would expect given the reputation of the Gesha variety. We noted the body of this coffee as being rather remarkable in how silky smooth it was.

About Mauricio Salaverria of El Salvador

This is our 10th year purchasing coffee from Mauricio Salaverria and his team at Divisadero Farms and the quality that they produce year after year continues to amaze us. Mauricio operates 5 farms around the small village of Ataco located in western El Salvador in the Apaneca range and has produced 4 top 10 COE results and just placed 19th this year.

This lot comes from his prized Finca Himalaya which produces some of his best coffees due to amazing soil, protection from the wind and the abundance of shade from beautiful Cyprus and Inga trees. During our visit two years ago Mauricio would refer to this coffee as “Baby Gesha” as if he were talking about a new born child! Now that these trees have been in production for 2 years we are starting to see their potential. The cup has changed even from the lot we had last year and is more distinctly floral and the fruit notes are clearer.

Boxcar Coffee Roasters

Boxcar was started in 2010 by husband and wife team Vajra and Cara Rich with the goal of building a world class roasting company in their small hometown of Boulder, Colorado. To achieve this goal they knew that quality had to be at the foundation, which is why we have always held a "never settle" mindset towards our coffee roasting. By continuously examining every aspect of our process from green coffee storage to QC protocols to data collection; we ensure that we are always pushing the boundaries of what is possible through a scientific and evidence-based approach.

Over the ten years Boxcar has been in business it has become clear that there is one factor even more important than quality: relationships. Through the years we've been lucky to have built up quite a few life long relationships that are by and far what keeps us inspired to do our best work, day after day. From wholesale partners, to our producer relationships and team members that have been with us since the beginning, relationships have kept Boxcar going through the good and bad and are inextricably linked to our success.
