About Mukure Coffee Factory of Kenya
Where mighty Mt. Kenya dominates the landscape and the famous Mwea rice plains form a backdrop, we find the Mukure Coffee Factory. 1100 smallholder farmers bring their ripe coffee cherries here to be processed in the abundant fresh water of the Kirinyaga river. Competition between factories and cooperative societies for high quality coffee from the same areas has led to increased effort and pride in giving the best prices to the farmers. Some co-ops are able to pay up to 90% back to their members.
One way Kenya markets its coffee is through auction at the Nairobi Coffee Exchange. Prices of high-quality coffee can soar as agents bid against each other. The other avenue of sales is through the “Second Window” of direct sales to roasters and importers. This second window enables growers to negotiate a price based on the previous week’s auction prices.

Dapper & Wise
In 2013, Insomnia's owners Evan Aldrete and Tyler Geel launched Dapper & Wise as a tasting room and roasting facility in Portland's Western suburbs, and by 2014, as a wholesaler as well.
Based out of Hillsboro, Oregon, Evan and Tyler work with a stellar team, all of whom are dedicated to the values that undergird Dapper & Wise: “We want people to walk through our doors and feel welcome. We want people to taste our coffee and be impressed and inspired. We want the coffee we roast to exemplify the hard work of the producers that grow it.”
