Coffee Description
From the highlands of Nicaragua, this rare anaerobic Maragogipe Natural is a treat for adventurous coffee enthusiasts. Grown by Bayardo Reyes at Finca San Jose de las Nubes, this coffee comes from heritage seeds saved from his grandfather’s original farm, Finca San Jose. After the farm was lost during the Nicaraguan revolution in 1979, these seeds were carefully preserved and later replanted, keeping the family’s connection to Maragogipe alive.
The Maragogipe variety is challenging to grow, requiring extra care and resources, but its exceptional flavor profile has earned it a special place in the specialty coffee world. Fermented in anaerobic barrels for 84 hours, sun-dried for 24 hours, and finished with careful tunnel drying for up to 28 days, this coffee stands out for its depth and unique flavor profile. The resulting light roast coffee has tropical notes of jackfruit, classic bubblegum sweetness, milk chocolate-coated raisin, bright lemon verbena, and an acidic finish that adds a lively complexity.

About Bayardo of Nicaragua
Bayardo’s top priority with his coffee farm has always been to help his fellow countrymen and improve the lives of the workers on his farm. When he first bought the land, it did not have any buildings. Over time, he has put up housing for the workers, imported solar panels and a wind turbine to provide some electricity, improved the toilets and sanitation, and provided funding for a teacher for farmworkers and their children.

Nossa Familia Coffee
Frustration and pride may seem like strange bedfellows, but when Brazilian-born Augusto Carvalho Dias Carneiro (bottom left in the team photo) became disillusioned with engineering, his thoughts and heart turned to his family’s award-winning coffee farms in the Minas Gerais region of Brazil, where he grew up and his family has grown coffee for over a hundred years.
Nossa Familia, "Our Family" was born in 2004 as a way to share his family coffee with Portland. At first, Nossa partnered with a local Portland roaster and built up a loyal following, then opened their own roastery in 2012 and an Espresso Bar in 2013. Nossa Familia recently became Oregon's first certified B Corp roaster, earning a certification that recognizes the hard work and love that roots this family business.
