About Mario Vasquez of Honduras
Mario Vasquez, as a "new" Specialty Coffee Farmer (he's been in coffee farming for 9 years, but only 4 harvests in Specialty),was on the lower end of the spectrum when it came to knowledge and resources. When we first spent time with Mario on his farm four years ago, Mario produced almost no exportable quality coffee and mostly sold his cherries to a local Middle Man. Through hard work, farm infrastructure improvement projects (he invested in new raised solar beds with his profits three years ago), and attending best practice seminars provided by Catracha Coffee, Mario has increased his exportable coffee to7 bags of 85-86 pt quality. We have bought every bag!
Old Soul Co.
Started by Tim Jordan and Jason Griest in an obscure alley in Sacramento in 2006, Old Soul Co. has grown rapidly but still enthusiastically shares the same vision thirteen years later: "celebrate the artisan aspects of bread baking and coffee roasting and dedicate ourselves to getting better at our crafts everyday!"
Old Soul's coffee sourcing practices set them apart: owner Jason Griest travels to as many of the farms growing Old Soul's coffees as possible. In Sacramento, Old Soul is deeply involved in volunteering and giving back to the community. The roasting company has received many 90+ and "Best Of" awards over the past years.
